What types of fibroids can be treated with MRgFUS?
The only way to truly determine if your fibroids can be treated is to schedule a consultation. In general, MRgFUS can be used for all 3 main types of fibroids (i.e.submucosal, subserosal, and intramural). These are terms that are used to describe the location of the fibroid within the uterus. More than one fibroid can be treated per procedure; although if a woman has numerous uterine fibroids, other non-surgical alternatives like Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) may be a more appropriate treatment option. Fibroids that are pedunculated (hanging from a stalk), in close proximity to sensitive organs (such as bowel or bladder), or in a location inaccessible by the focused ultrasound may be untreatable.
